The Swift
Science Team Meeting was held at UNLV, Feb. 4-5, 2008 Thanks everybody for coming.
About the Meeting
The primary purpose of the meeting is to prepare for the upcoming NASA Senior Review and discuss the current status and future plan of the mission. A few highlights of the meeting include:
- the scientific potential and dramatic need for more data on GRBs
in the categories of short, high redshift and nearby underluminous
- the growing capabilities and availability of ground-based telescopes
for GRB follow-up and other correlated observations with Swift
- the large expansion of interest in non-GRB uses of Swift
- the new opportunities for joint observations with GLAST, AGILE, TeV
instruments, gravitational wave interferometers & neutrino detectors
At the UNLV meeting we will look at the science opportunities for the coming years and discuss a strategic plan for future operations. We had a workshop at Penn State in May 2007 to consider future opportunities for Swift, and the UNLV meeting will include summaries from that meeting. There will be opportunities for members of the team to present science results and new ideas for the future.
